Geppetto Building & Restoration Is EPA Lead-Based Paint Certified Renovator

February 28, 2010 – Geppetto Building & Restoration, a leading Metropolitan Detroit contractor specializing in commercial and residential services and emergency restoration, is now an EPA Lead-Based Paint Certified Renovator. All training and compliance activities have been completed.

The fine for non-compliance is $32,500.00 per day, per occurrence.

Due to new Environmental Protection Agency policies, any contractor that creates dust in pre-1978 built homes must follow EPA regulations for containment, removal, and/or sanding of any lead material to prevent exposure to the home, childcare facility, and/or school.

The Renovator, Repair & Painting Rule requires that renovators be trained in the use of lead safe work practices, that renovators and firms be certified, and that renovators follow specific work practice standards.

The Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule applies to all firms and individuals who are paid to perform renovation, repair, and painting projects that disturb paint in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities. This includes home improvement contractors, maintenance workers, painters and other specialty trades. For detailed info, please visit www.epa.gov/lead.

Why Do You Need to Be Concerned About Lead?

Lead is a toxic metal that was used for many years in products found in and around our homes. Lead also can be emitted into the air from motor vehicles and industrial sources, and lead can enter drinking water from plumbing materials. Lead may cause a range of health effects, from behavioral problems and learning disabilities, to seizures and death. Children six years old and under are most at risk.

Our company coordinated, scheduled & confirmed attendance for the 8 hour training for each of our installers to ensure they are certified and not placing our clients at risk of exposure or our company at risk for incurring fines.
